Everyone loves a birthday. Today is the birthday of Roger Baldwin, founder of the ACLU. We are proud to be a part of our nation’s largest and oldest civil liberties organization.
We are equally proud that a Nebraskan has helped us learn about civil liberties.
Former ACLU of Nebraska and ACLU Nationwide board member Professor Samuel Walker has written the book on the ACLU. Literally. In Defense of American Liberties, A History of the ACLU was first published in 1989, with a second edition in 1999.
In addition to be an international expert on law enforcement practices, Professor Walker runs Today in Civil Liberties History – a website with a daily calendar of events in civil liberties.
2016 is the 50th anniversary of the ACLU of Nebraska. We will feature several memories from our five decades of defending freedom in the Cornhusker state here. Do you have a favorite memory? Share it with us!
