Joy focuses on protecting students' rights, First Amendment issues, and police accountability through litigation and policy work as well as other issues that intersect with racial justice. Prior to joining the ACLU team, Joy worked at a law firm practicing family law including divorces, custody and child support matters as well as estate planning and estate administration. She also served as a Guardian ad Litem in court-appointed matters.

Joy is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) and received her law degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law where she served as president of the Multicultural Legal Society/Black Law Student Association and president of her 3L class.

Fun fact: Joy knows no limits when trying to attend a Beyoncé concert. She's traveled to three countries, drove through a snowstorm and studied for finals in the car just to see the Queen Bey live.
